South Afrika is fantastik

Geldenhuys, J

Beskikbaarheid: In stock

Quick Overview

Amidst the peculiar mix of the fog of war, the perfume of diplomacy, and the pong of politics, Jannie Geldenhuys is known for his love of his fellow man, nature, sport and humour. His new book, South Afrika is fantastik, is an Afrikan safari winding through a wacky world, reaching the end of the sweet years of illusions, and a new beginning in South Afrika. According to Donavon Marais (Emeritus Professsor, Unisa), Geldenhuys “writes with a brutal honesty, both as regards himself and the world in which he finds himself. He is deeply troubled by what he perceives as political dishonesty hidden under a cloak of political correctness. Political correctness is a misnomer. It is the superficial justification of the advancement of selfish self-interests against the real needs of those who lack basic services and employment opportunities. Political correctness is the preferred language of those who unfairly reap the advantages of corrupt power. This book is a powerful [and humourous] attack on what is wrong in our society. It is very wide ranging but the central theme does not run off into dry tributaries.”
Alhtough General Geldenhuys is a military man, used to issuing commands, this is not a military book. In spite of the severity of the disturbing truths which he advances, the book is thougroughly entertaining. His surprisingly catchy style of writing is informative to the reader who lacks the exceptionally wide reading habit of the author, but it is also of interest to the knowledgeable reader as Geldenhuys links seemingly unrelated facts and incidents in a sensible manner. Geldenhuys takes his reader by the hand and helps him through the river of understanding of his own situation.
Wim Bosman’s amusing illustrations adds value to the book and bring the characters of Jimmy, Tarentaal, Gnu and Professor Klrtz to life.

Jannie Geldenhuys was head of the South African military during the peak of the East-West Cold War. He is known for his love of his fellow man, nature, sport and humour. Geldenhuys’ previous publications include A General’s Story – From an Era of War and Peace; Dié wat wen – ’n Generaal se Storie uit ’n Era van Oorlog en Vrede;and the Basjan & Wilhelm series.
